love the girl who holds the world in a paper cup...

nick and i completed our first e-trade this morning! i feel super nerdy and accomplished and might even let out a couple snorts before the day's end.  thoughts of digital trading, shares, earnings and investment make me feel somewhat sophisticated and adult-like, but mostly just needy and desperate. maybe i will buy a cute houndstooth briefcase and thick rimmed glasses with some of our loot so i can really play the part, or maybe just settle for those mustache bandages i've been coveting. yea, that sounds more like it, especially since e-trade isn't sending me any goodies for taking such a grown-up chance. the. stock. market! a sticker or magnet would be nice.

the other half of my morning was spent hanging my head in shame after googling ways to fancy up ramen noodles. after we get through this little bump in the road, i am vowing never to buy those college kid noodles ever again.

thank god for old shirley temple movies, capri-sun drinking, bare bottom tricycle riding and the wonders they work on this heavy heart.  and thank god for ramen noodles, too... i suppose.

  3. I actually enjoy ramen noodles, haha! Of course I only buy a couple packs every now and then as I can imagine eating them all the time gets old mighty quickly. Try adding just a little of the seasoning packet and a bit of butter to the noodles, toss them with some steamed veggies (fresh or frozen), and maybe some cut up chicken breast that's been cooked on the stove top with salt and pepper and tiny bit of oil. If the girls won't eat that, just add butter and shredded cheese and serve with some chicken nuggets!
And bare baby bottoms are always sure to make you smile!

  4. i enjoy ramen noodles, too Edie! When I am eating them by choice, haha... and not because Ramen noodles are the affordable option of the week. The girls actually love them, which is good, I want them to have full and happy tummies. I just wish they had vitamins or something decent in them. I made up my own version of Ramen mac and cheese, where i melted some shredded cheese into whipping cream and half and half. well, it was an italian mix so it was more like ramen alfredo... it was alright! Chicken would have been the kicker tho, mmmm! I love chicken! <3

  5. One of my fondest memories of growing up were indoor picnics. My mom wasn't trying to be cute or create memories (she was too busy trying to raise two kids without a husband), but it was because peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are a lot cheaper than getting fancy meals. She wasn't even trying to create memories (just doing the best she could) and I remember those days. So I know that your girls will have fond thoughts of even the Ramen days :)
Not to mention, there is a reason why Kenny Loggins was right on "Even though we ain't got money, I'm still in love with ya honey"
